Evening everybody. As you can imagine, our art is still continuing because we have all been so busy. In Year 1, the recycled turtle is nearly finished, a few last minute clocks and words are about to be added. The children in Year 1 have printed on the straw turtles head and fins to create a more realistic looking sculpture. Swirly designs have been used to create another turtle which will become a relief piece on canvas. The children have remained focused and shown fantastic collaboration skills. Year 4 have been using watercolours over tree designs created by drizzling acrylic mixed with pva. The finished effects will be amazing.

Today Laura Carle came back for the second day of her workshop. She was creating a recycled family out of rubbish with the children. There is a female, a male, a baby, a sibling and a dog. Children have already been saying they are like their family. Children from different year groups worked collaboratively, they helped each other and guided each other. The children made decisions about what they wanted to create. They learnt that it is okay to alter what they have already made by taking pieces apart and changing them. This is just like in writing when they edit their work to improve it, in this instance they edited their art to make it better. Have a look at the pictures below to see what we did today. Here is the recycled family. Another exciting day at Foxfield. The masterpieces are underway but not quite finished yet. Year 4 have been creating a woodland scene. I wont tell you what they are doing because it will be interesting for you all to see the end outcome. However, to create their background, they have been using rubbish to make the specific textures. It will be fascinating to see the finished pieces. To add to this, they have been drizzling paint so they could add watercolour. Year 2 are looking at climate so they are finding out about fire and ice. They have made a start on the backgrounds. Both pieces have been created using rubbish Today we had some more dance workshops going on with different types of music linked to different dance moves. Yet again, fun was had by all. In the other hall we had a recycling workshop with a visiting artist, Laura Carle, who specialises in sculpture. We used all types of rubbish ranging from bottles, to boxes and even some broken toys playing a huge part in our sculpture. The children made a skeleton base and then added items to create the body. So far we made a dad, a mum and we have started to make a child. These creations will be our recycled family. Having sculptures made out of rubbish has shown the children that art can be created from anything, and all we need is a little imagination. The workshop has also shown the children different skills. Everyone was focused and engaged in their learning. Jacey asked if he could spend all day in the workshop because he enjoyed it so much. Max said he loved jumping on the plastic bottles to flatten them because it was something he had never done before. The Year 6 helpers have asked if they can return and be the helpers for the workshop on Friday, that is when we will finish the sculptures. Have a look at the pictures below to see our recycled family begin to take shape. What can I say about today? Wow! Another exciting day at Foxfield. We had Junk Percussion in all day showing the children how to make music out of recycled junk which had been made into instruments. After playing on the instruments, Harriet asked if she could do it again because she thought it was so much fun. Seeing the children's faces said it all, laughing, smiling, concentrating and generally having fun, made it all worthwhile. Changes have been made to the turtle in Pine class. Rubbish has started to be added. check it out for yourself. It's a work in progress. Pine are amazed at how it is changing. We are now in to the second week of our art projects. Today Year 3 have been completing some amazing pictures using watercolours and oil pastels. Year 3 are looking at the problems in our oceans. The children have been shocked and surprised to learn about all the plastic that is floating in our seas. They are seeing the problems that are being created and now hope to do something to help by making others aware. Below are some pictures of the children as they start to draw and paint. Well done Year 3, keep up the fabulous work. Tomorrow we will be welcoming the Junk Percussion Workshop. We look forward to their visit and we cannot wait to see what interesting things they do and show the children.
Today there were no workshops being held, so all of the classes were busy creating their masterpieces. You will have to wait and see what the outcomes will be, but remember everything is linked to our topic of Conservation and the Art of Recycling. Each piece created is either made by using some recycled items or the recycled items have been added into the detail. Year 1 have been adding to their turtle. Today they made pieces to go on the turtles shell. Straws were used because this highlights the problems that turtles have to endure. I am sure you have seen the turtle with the straw up its nose. If you haven;t, then google it, it is very sad seeing the turtle in so much distress. The children used pieces of old card and added straws that have been used to count in groups of ten. The sections were then added to the turtle shell. We hope you enjoying our creations. Have a great weekend and the blog will resume on Monday. Wow! Another eventful day at Foxfield Primary School. A massive thank you to Jo Green and Maria Turner for sorting out and running the workshop that we had today. We are creating a pond full of incredible items. Plastic and tin will also be put into and under the pond showing what our seas and ponds are struggling with. Recycled items including recycled glass, lids and newspaper were all used to help create our glass items. An amazing glass workshop took place and children from every year group took part. The day started with reception and Year 1 making plasticine moulds of shells, they then poured in plaster of paris into the moulds. These will then become the base for our glass pond when it goes into the kiln. In addition, glass shells will be made using the same moulds. Everybody was so focused today, they worked so hard and were so excited to be learning a different type of art. The next group of children were making puddles of glass. These were made by layering glass shapes. Again, these will change when they are heated in a kiln. They will become pieces of jewellery and can also be made into a hanging mobile. The next group of children used a mould and filled it with glass pieces. The glass will fuse together and making glass fish, shells and starfish. Nursery were next to participate. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves creating moulds out of plasticine. The next groups of children to attend the glass workshop used kiln paper and they drew a sea creature or a rock. They then had to fill it with pieces of different coloured glass. After completing the pieces, Jo took them away so they can go in the kiln. Another eventful day at Foxfield Primary school, we had more dance workshops going on today as well as different classes creating their masterpieces using recycled objects. In Year 1, we were drawing jellyfish on recycled card. Our designs were made using both chalk pastels and oil pastels. The jellyfish population has increased everywhere in the world because their natural predators are in decline due to the environment. Turtles eat jellyfish but they are mistaking plastic bags for jellyfish. These plastic bags get stuck in the turtles digestive system which causes problems and the turtle then dies. In Year 4 we have been making upside down leaf pots. We want people to be aware of deforestation and what this does to the homes of animals and insects. We used some fallen leaves to help us create the pots. Louise said she really enjoying using clay to make the leaves and she added that she was surprised at how easy it was to make the leaf. Day 2 has been and gone, and what an exciting day it was. The turtle has had a coat of paint in Year 1 ready for its next coat before adding the plastic straws which are causing problems for turtles in their natural environment. See the turtles progress in the images below. We would like to say a huge thank you to Ewan at West End in Schools for showing the children dances from around the world. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning the dances and carried on doing them at playtime with their friends in the playground. What a fabulous experience for them learning these moves from a professional dance company. We look forward to learning more dance moves tomorrow from Ewan. It has begun. In Year 1, fantastic creations are beginning to spring into life. Linked to conservation and saving the planet, Year 1 are looking at what is happening to sea creatures. We have started to create a whale out of newspaper and a turtle made using willow and paper mache. In addition we are also making a large seahorse. The children have been preparing boards ready to create more sea creatures out of recycled items including broken toys, plastic bags and used food cartons. Year 3 have been using paper mache to create a cornucopia linked to their topic of pollution in the sea. The shell will be filled with rubbish which is found in the sea, these items are killing the sea creatures and washing up on shores throughout the planet. All of these fabulous creations and it is only day 1. We will keep you posted about day 2 because we have a London Dance group joining us for the day.
